Welcome to the Rocky Ford Historical Museum Turn back the pages of Rocky Ford's History!!
Location Rocky Ford Museum is located in Library Park between Maple and Sycamore Streets in the 400 Block on South 10th and 11th Streets.
The Museum The Museum is located in the old Carnegie Public Library founded in 1909. The Museum, first opened in 1941, moved to its present location in 1976. The building was placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1995.
The Collection The collection is primarily concerned with the Archaeology and History of the Rocky Ford Area. Included in the collection are documents and exhibits of the Arkansas Valley Fair and Watermelon Day (1878 to present), of the sugar and honey industries, and of the everyday life of the people in the Arkansas Valley. A unique map of Otero County dating from approximately 1910, shows property owners and school districts as well as roads and settlements in the area. The collection also includes exhibits in geology, anthropology, archaeology, and ethnographic studies.
